What drives us

Work is a constant in our lives. Work is the essential source for sustaining our livelihoods and to an extent also of meaning. This will not change.

But how work is being done will keep on changing. The pace of change should be as high as the pace of change in the world around us. Otherwise, work will lose its value, and not contribute to the quality of our lives.

This is reflected by HR’s path from an administrative unit to a strategic contributor. Today it is HR’s role to design and run the organizational systems in which work can flow and develop.

These systems need to be flexible, digitized, fit for humans and provide constant learning. They need to allow for work to happen freely, adding value to the organization, the individual, and with some will also to the planet.

For us, it is both a privilege and an incentive to design such systems. We don’t stand in the spotlight. But we make a difference in the success of companies and in the lives of a large number of people.

Who we are

We started in 1998 when Netscape was still a thing and Microsoft had a dedicated version of Windows for enterprises. Probably the same time when the vision of what would later become successful HRIS systems must have formed in the heads of their founders.

Like them, we are entrepreneurs, but we wanted to be service providers – maximize learning and connect the multitude of dots in HR. Our idea though was the same: Improve how we work with the power of software.

We have done so for many large enterprises, spanning 20+ industries and touching the lives of 2.5m workers. We still work for some of our early clients. But we have experienced how the possibilities, attitudes, and tasks in HR shifted. Change became quicker, opaquer, and decision situations more ambiguous. Adding HR Transformation issues to our portfolio was a natural step.

Our team grew to 30 experienced consultants, three partners, an external network of additional subject matter experts, and a unit of coders for custom software development (COLMEIA.cloud).

Today we cover all areas of strategic value in HR. From transforming HR itself, to transforming the workforce they serve, from the journey into skill management to the journey of merging business units.

In 20 years, we have changed as much as the world we live and work in. We were one of the first DACH companies to specialize in HR-IT and one of the first to get into HR Transformation. We look forward to keeping on transforming and learning with the speed of change around us.

What we all stand for

In over 25 years in our industry, we saw fashions coming and going: From tech solutions to management approaches and future skills. What has kept us successful on our path and our team coherent is our guiding principle of authenticity. For our projects and the relationships, we build.

Being authentic at work means being true to your personality and values, regardless of the changing environment and requirements.

It means missing opportunities because we say what we think is right and not necessarily what is expected. But it has also been the prerequisite for our success. Acting authentically means others know what we stand for – a pillar of mutual trust. It means integrity because who we are, what we say, and what we do is aligned. It means having the ability to acknowledge mistakes, then flip them upside down and turn them into opportunities.

Showing up with their true selves is also vastly more rewarding for our team. Everything else would be tiring and hold people back from reaching their true potential.

We learn from others but we don’t emulate them because it would mean imitating without adding any value. As a team, it would mean creating a second-rate service. We rather embrace our quirks and everyone’s uniqueness to build first-rate services. It’s more fun. (And more successful.)

Reinhard Binder, Managing Partner. With 30+ years of experience as management consultant, Reinhard has worked with large international clients, DAX/MDax/TecDax companies and SMEs to implement new technologies and lead major HR transformation programs. He holds a Diploma in Economic Engineering from the Technical University of Karlsruhe and enjoys tennis competition, cycling and Munich’s cultural variety in his free time.

Dr. Ralph Oliver Köppen, Managing Partner. Ralph is a performance enthusiast with over 30 years of experience in various management functions. He has led digitalization programs from strategy to operations and business transformation and has extensive IT management and sourcing knowledge. He has worked with large multinational clients in various industries across the globe, was a partner of a NASDAQ-listed global technology advisory firm, ran a branch of a software development company and worked for a trade association. He has a Diploma in Industrial Engineering. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, reading, and relaxing with family and friends.

Andreas Letto, Managing Partner. Andreas is an experienced consultant who works with large international clients to create the future of talent through new technologies, employee experience design, and the design and implementation of agile HR organizations. He has over 30 years of experience in consulting and outsourcing in market-leading global organizations and has worked across many different industries. Andreas has a passion for developing people and organizations and has shaped project teams and organizational functions of more than 200 people. He is an effective communicator and enjoys traveling and music in his free time.

Dr. Martina Gleiss, Principal Consultant. Martina is our expert in the financial services industry, with a focus on digital transformation, HR-IT transformation, and operationalization such as automation and business process optimization. She has over 25 years of an insurance group as well as consulting industry experience and works with both large, listed groups and small and medium-sized companies. She is known for her pragmatic and agile approach and focuses on feasibility in her work.

Werner Reil, Principal Consultant. Werner is an experienced consultant with over 30 years of experience in the implementation of transformation programs, the management of IT units, programs, and projects in an international environment. He has held various management positions in a leading international consulting firm, was Managing Director of an independent IT unit, and has extensive experience in project management, the implementation of transformation programs, and outsourcing projects. His customers come mainly from the international insurance and banking sector.

Siegmar Schulz, Associated Senior Consulting Partner. Siegmar is a consultant who supports globally operating companies of all sizes with the introduction and optimization of organization and job structures. He has over 20 years of experience as a senior consultant and project manager in market-leading HR consultancies and draws on a wealth of projects in design and implementation of job evaluation and remuneration management systems. He is Managing Partner of Scutera Software GmbH and works with binder|consulting on the introduction of job structures and remuneration systems.

Dr. Max Schaifers, Senior Digital Transformation Advisor. Max is a trusted Advisor with 30+ years of experience in IT operations, business transformation, and project management. His focus lies on SAP Business Applications, HCM transformation, and the cloud. Max worked on many complex, multinational transformation projects for global enterprises from a variety of industries such as car manufacturing, consulting, and software. He also held Business Sector Head roles in the chemical, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, and mining industries. In his free time, Max enjoys spending time with his family and friends as well as skiing, sailing, biking, golfing, or simply reading a good book.
